24 March 2009: Morning Prayer
7am. We began the day by morning prayer on the ward. Tattered blue song books were handed out as we lined up against the corridor wall. A number was called out, pages turned, and the lead singer began. What glorious noises rose up from the ward. I was standing near the stairs and could hear other wards begin their singing too. I can’t even begin to explain the beauty that surrounded me. It sent chills up my spine and words that I couldn’t understand sprung from my lips. What a way to worship God!
After 2 or 3 songs (one in English, two in Zulu), the matron announced, “Let’s pray” and all the voices rose together in unison saying prayers, mostly in Zulu. I imagined this is what Heaven is like.
